It took a late eagle and an incredible back nine run in the desert, but Hudson Swafford claimed his third PGA Tour win on Sunday afternoon.

Swafford fired an 8-under 64 at the Stadium Course with five birdies and an eagle on his back nine to win The American Express for the second time in his career.

Swafford, who entered Sunday three shots back, got his back nine started with three straight birdies to get right into the mix.

Though he made two bogeys on his next three holes, which he mitigated somewhat with a birdie on the par-4 14th, Swafford stuck his approach on the par-5 16th just feet from the hole.

That set up a simple eagle putt, which suddenly gave him a commanding two-shot lead.

He then made a nearly 20-foot birdie putt on 17 to push his lead to three headed into the final hole.

Swafford made par at the last to stay at 23-under on the week and take the two-shot win.

Swafford’s finish at The American Express marked his first and only top-25 finish so far this season in nine starts. The 34-year-old’s best finish came with a T32 outing at The CJ Cup in October.

The win marks his first since claiming the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship in 2020. He won The American Express during the 2016-17 season, which marked his first career win on Tour, when it was called the CareerBuilder Challenge.

Tom Hoge finished second at 21-under on the week thanks to a pair of birdies on his final three holes. Brian Harman, Lanto Griffin and Lee Hodges finished in a tie for third at 20-under.
