Philippe Clement lauds Rangers duo after St Mirren win and praises team's fighting spirit

Philippe Clement hailed the parts played by Jack Butland and Cyriel Dessers in Rangers' battling win over St Mirren.

The Light Blues got their first league win since March and while they weren't at their best, they found a way to be victorious. Clement was pleased to see those fighting qualities come to the fore even if he would have liked to see a bit more aesthetically pleasing football on show in Paisley.

Asked for his feelings on the game, the Belgian told Sky Sports: "That you need to take the three points and we did. It's a difficult place to come. They have nothing to lose, their season is already a success and they go full in the fight. It was in moments also fight and not enough football.

"We got the chances also to score more goals, they got chances. Jack saved a few good balls. In the end it's about winning. This period of the season it's decisive to take three points and we focus on that.

"We took the three points and that's the most important thing."

Asked about the contributions of Jack Butland and matchwinner Cyriel Dessers, he added: "I think if you want to win trophies you need a good goalkeeper and a good striker who scores enough goals. That's in every team in the world.

"It's not only Cyriel scoring goals but he took already 20 so that's a good amount but all the team has been scoring. It's important we're not only focused about Cyriel scoring goals, he needs to do other things also."
