It was almost all over - but thanks to a late leveller from Jude Bellingham and another from Harry KaneEngland scraped their way through to the Euro 2024 quarter-finals.

Gareth Southgate's squad live to fight another day in the tournament thanks to Bellingham's goal in the 95th minute and a second from Kane just 52 seconds into extra time.

England fans had that all too familiar feeling of heartbreak and anger as it looked as though Slovakia were going to send the squad packing - and, as you can expect, footy fans went wild across the country as the two late goals secured victory for the team.

Fantastic pictures taken from the Central Park fan zone in Newcastle's Time Square show hundreds of beaming faces jumping for joy - and a couple who were quick to whip their tops off and swing them around in the air.

Many fans were left "shouting endlessly at the tele" while watching the game after Ivan Schranz's goal at 25 minutes left the team scrambling.

Although it seemed over for England - and it really did - they managed to just about keep themselves in the competition.

Despite fans being "buzzing" about the late win, it did not take away from the feeling amongst many about the match - which has been described as "disjointed" and "abysmal" online.

One person said: "No idea how England progressed tonight. Awful performance. Awful team cohesion. Incredibly lucky. But they go marching on."

Another argued: "The worst performance by an England team in the history of tournament football regardless of Bellingham’s equaliser, considering the squad we have. International laughing stock. "
