Ten years ago Great Britain won 65 medals – 29 golds, 18 silvers and 18 bronzes – to clinch third place in the table at London 2012.
Team GB claimed three gold medals in one athletics session for the first time in Olympic history on ‘Super Saturday’ as Jessica Ennis, Greg Rutherford and Mo Farah delighted a capacity crowd of 80,000 with three triumphs in the space of a barely-believable 45 minutes.
Here, the PA news agency looks back on that special night among other triumphs ahead of the 10th anniversary of the London Games.

Perhaps after waiting 23 years to host a Premier League game, it was written in the stars that Nottingham Forest would win this match against West Ham. It certainly felt like that at times and, when Hammers boss David Moyes reviews this game, he will be wondering how his side left the City Ground with nothing. Thomas Tuchel hopes referee Anthony Taylor doesn’t referee Chelsea matches in future and was furious after a feeling refereeing decisions cost his side a win at home to Tottenham. Harry Kane’s late equaliser consigned the Blues to a 2-2 draw but Tuchel didn’t believe either that or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s early goal should have stood due to fouls before they were given. Immediately after the match, Tuchel was sent off after his spat with Spurs manager Antonio Conte but seemed more angry at the referee than his counterpart when he met the media.
The Whites let a two-goal lead slip against Southampton last weekend as they picked up their fourth point of the new Premier League season.
