The 2023/24 season is not over just yet for Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Part of Denmark's squad for Euro 2024, the midfielder will be targeting a run to the latter stages of the competition three years on from his country giving England an almighty fright in the semi-finals.

Leading 1-0 at Wembley Stadium thanks to Mikel Damsgaard's excellent free-kick, the Three Lions won it in extra time after Harry Kane had added to Simon Kjaer's first-half own goal. The two nations will meet once again at this year's Euros, with both going head-to-head in Frankfurt on Thursday, June 20.

It is a big summer for Hojbjerg and one that could potentially lead to a move away from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Playing a bit-part role under Ange Postecoglou last season with limited starts coming his way, the 28-year-old looks destined to leave N17 this summer in his quest to get back to playing week in, week out.

It has probably come as no surprise to Tottenham fans that Hojbjerg has been mentioned in regards to potential reunions with former Spurs bosses Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho. Conte is now in the hotseat at Napoli after the Italian side's dismal Serie A title defence and Mourinho has made the move to Turkey to become Fenerbahce head coach.

Reports have suggested that Atletico Madrid, who were keen on signing the Dane 12 months ago, are once again interested in luring him to the Spanish capital. Other clubs will no doubt be looking to sign a player of Hojbjerg's experience and a few more clubs may indeed make the move if the 28-year-old catches the eye in the Euros in Germany.

Hojbjerg, as ever, will be a driving force in Denmark's midfield as they look to progress from a group containing England, Serbia and Slovenia. Despite his lack of minutes in a Tottenham shirt, the ex-Southampton man appears to be coming into the tournament in excellent form after notching in both of their warm-up friendlies so far.

Scoring after two minutes in their 2-1 win over Scandinavian neighbours Sweden last Wednesday, the midfielder opened the scoring for Denmark once again on Saturday as they beat Norway 3-1. Hojbjerg's latest two strikes means he has now scored in his last three Denmark games after finding the net in March's 2-0 win over the Faroe Islands.

Very much a key cog in Kasper Hjulmand's system, Hojbjerg was an influential figure in Denmark's last Euros campaign after registering three assists on their way to the semi-finals. If he carries on his recent form for his country and very much finds himself in the spotlight this summer due to his Denmark performances, Tottenham shouldn't be short on options when it comes to cashing in on the former Bayern Munich man.

A strong Euros could even help Tottenham get a bit more money for Hojbjerg, who is currently valued at £15million by Transfermarkt. Spurs unfortunately will struggle to get the kind of fee they may have got for the player 12 months ago as the start of July will mark the beginning of the final year of his contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Nevertheless, Spurs should still be able to pull in a reasonable transfer fee for a player who still has so much more to offer. When Hojbjerg does eventually move on to a new challenge elsewhere, Postecoglou and Tottenham ideally need to replace his leadership qualities as his experience and nous when it comes to getting the team over the line in games will be dearly missed.

Those qualities will no doubt be on show for Denmark at Euro 2024 this summer, starting with their opening game against Slovenia in Stuttgart. Hojbjerg's Tottenham career may be about to come to an end but the start of a brand new chapter will soon be on the horizon.
