Arsenal fan and TV personality Piers Morgan has poked fun at the news that Manchester United will keep faith in Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils boss has faced intense scrutiny over his future at Old Trafford after steering them to their worst top-flight season in 30 years.

Despite languishing in eighth and as many points outside of the Champions League places, United managed to secure European qualification after upsetting Premier League champions and rivals Manchester City at Wembley in the FA Cup final. Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo were on target for United as they weathered a late onslaught - with Jeremy Doku halving the deficit in the dying embers - to win the competition.

On Wednesday night, it emerged that the 54-year-old would remain at the Theatre of Dreams despite ongoing speculation over his successor. Former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino was linked, while United were set to rival Chelsea for Kieran McKenna prior to his new deal as Ipswich Town boss.

England manager Gareth Southgate was among the rumoured successors to Ten Hag however, the uncertainty has subsided after United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS opted to keep the Dutchman in position. The MEN reported that INEOS officials have recognised the achievement of winning two trophies in two seasons, and Ten Hag has been given a vote of confidence to continue as manager.

Following the news that Ten Hag would remain as United manager and undergo tasks over a new deal at the Theatre of Dreams, Morgan looked to take aim at the tactician. The interviewer quote-tweeted a post from Fabrizio Romano and said: "Brilliant!" With three laughing and clapping emojis in the tweet.

Ten Hag is winless in his last three matches against Arsenal after their triumph in the first meeting in September 2022, as Marcus Rashford's double helped them beat the Gunners. Since then, it has been a difficult fixture for the Dutchman.

During Mikel Arteta's charge towards the Premier League, United failed to deliver a blow to their hopes as they suffered a 1-0 defeat. In their two other encounters, Arsenal netted three times on each occasion, beating the Red Devils 3-1 in the corresponding fixture in September 2023.

It isn't the first time that Morgan has taken a swipe at Ten Hag, his previous dig came where at the beginning of May where he said: "The fact that [Cristiano] Ronaldo and now Sancho are playing brilliantly away from United.

"And [Macus] Rashford is struggling while still with them suggests the real problem at the club isn’t ‘difficult’ world-class players. But a manager who doesn’t know how to handle them."
