PITT 8 GIRLS: Crowder seals berth in Pitt 8 consolation final

Jan. 19—The Demonettes hit the floor on a mission.

Crowder faced off against Indianola Friday in the consolation semifinal round of the 2024 Pitt 8 Conference Tournament at the Southeast Expo Center in McAlester, where the Demonettes rolled to a 37-22 win and advanced to the consolation final.

The game started with a defensive matchup, but soon the Demonettes found an offensive rhythm to take a 12-5 lead after the first quarter. Crowder went to work in the second quarter, jumping out to a 23-8 lead at the half.

On the other side of the locker room visit, Crowder's Adison Womack and Indianola's Grace Santine traded scores to open up the second half of play. Skylar Mathis Later nabbed a jumper for the Warriorettes, followed by Skylar Sanders being fouled on a three-point shot — hitting two of three to trim the Crowder lead to 11.

But Malyea Bailey would get the last word for the Demonettes in quarter three, drilling a trey at the buzzer to give Crowder the 29-15 lead.

That push helped seal the deal, with the Demonettes powering their way to the win.

STUART 63, HAILEYVILLE 34

The Lady Hornets refused to relent.

Haileyville and Stuart faced off Friday in the 2024 Pitt 8 Conference Tournament consolation semifinals, where the Lady Hornets used a third-quarter run on the way to a 63-34 win and advance to the consolation championship.

Cadence King nailed a triple to start the game for the Lady Warriors, later hitting another three and a jumper on the way to an 8-3 lead. Ragan Kirkes next nabbed a hard-earned shot, but the Lady Hornets responded with a free throw from Kinslee Corley and Jacie Crenshaw next added a score to cut into the Hailevyille lead.

King drained a swishing three in response, but Corley nailed one of her own to cut it to a four-point Haileyville lead after the first quarter.

Stuart looked to chip away at the deficit, with points from Joey Steele and Jadee Hall slimming the Haileyville lead down to one. Corley was then sent to back-to-back trips to the foul line, sinking all four to put the Lady Hornets out front.

Reagan Wade then rattled off a run for Stuart, using a pair of post scores to go along with a pair of free throws to extend the lead. Haileyville ended the run as the buzzer sounding, with Arie Pink sinking a three to make it a 23-17 Stuart lead at the break.

Kirkes drilled a trey to open the second half for the Lady Warriors, but the Lady Hornets got back-to-back scores from Wade and Crenshaw to create some space. Hall then hit a baseline floater for Stuart, but Kirkes once again hit a three to keep Haileyville in striking distance.

But the Lady Hornets found a rhythm once more, finding themselves leading 45-26 after three quarters.

That final push did the trick, with Stuart sealing the win and advancing to the final day of competition.

Corley led the way for the Lady Hornets with 17 points, followed by Wade and Hall with 14 points each, Crenshaw with eight points, Steele and Paris Stanford with four points, and Kaci Justice with two points.

Kirkes led the Lady Warrios with 18 points, followed by King with 13 points, and Pink with three points.
