Police investigate football agent for alleged attempt to blackmail former Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia

A leading British football agent is being investigated by police for blackmail after allegedly sending a threatening email to former Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia.

Granovskaia, who left Chelsea in the summer, is said to have received the email while working at the club following its sale to a consortium led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

The Times reported details of the email, with the agent involved allegedly demanding payment of £300,000 for his role in a transfer.

“I will make you pay for the way you have been,” the Times reported the agent as writing. “That’s not a threat... it’s a promise. If Chelsea don’t pay it’s on you... see you when I see you.”

A solicitor acting for the agent told the Times his client “strenuously denies the allegation” and “has not been charged with any offence at this time”.

A Met Police spokesman said a man was arrested last month and released on bail pending further investigations.
