Pontypool United ready for five finals at Rodney Parade

Pontypool United RFC have achieved an unprecedented feat by securing a place in the Dragons Cup 2024 finals at the under-13, under-14, under-15, under-16, and Youth age grades.

This remarkable achievement marks the first time a single club has reached the finals in five age categories, solidifying Pontypool United’s status as a powerhouse in Welsh junior and youth rugby.

The journey to the finals has been nothing short of extraordinary for Pontypool United’s young talents, who have displayed exceptional skill, determination, and teamwork throughout the competition.

Their hard work and dedication have paid off, earning them the opportunity to showcase their talents on the grand stage at Rodney Parade in Newport.

The finals, scheduled for the weekend of May 18 and 19, promise to be a thrilling display of junior and youth rugby excellence.

Pontypool United, formed in 1946, boasts a thriving mini and juniors section, with more than 225 enthusiastic players, highlighting the club’s dedication to fostering talent.

Additionally, the club fields a youth team who were crowned Dragons Youth League champions, plus a senior team playing in Division 1 East, further showcasing its commitment to grassroots development at every level of the game.

Pontypool United’s club chairman Mark Jones said: “We are immensely proud of the achievements of the club’s young players. I can’t emphasise enough the importance of grassroots rugby in nurturing future stars.

“I would like to thank the players, coaches, volunteers, and parents whose unwavering dedication has been instrumental in the club’s success.”
