PREMIER LEAGUE: Brilliant Begovic saved Chelsea from humiliation, says Pellegrini

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini hails Chelsea keeper as his side chalk up a second successive 3-0 win and sink the champions

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini praised Chelsea keeper Asmir Begovic for preventing the Londoners being completely humiliated at the Etihad.

After City’s 3-0 Premier League victory, Pellegrini said: “Two things are the most pleasing to me about this match. Number one to score three goals. In the first half we played really well, just Asmir Begoivc put in a great performance and we didn't score more.

“Second it was important to get a clean sheet. To win 3-0 in two games, one against the champions, we are just starting the season but it’s important to play in the way we did today.

“We always dominate Chelsea. Maybe we draw against them last year and before we lost but always we dominate Chelsea. Today we made the complete work.”

He added: “Always when you don’t score the goals you deserve, normally after that is difficult. We started the second half losing important balls and Chelsea grew.

“They are a good team so of course we were worried, but they had just one chance to score in our bad moments, they did not create chances.

“It was not the same team as the first half but after the changes we recovered possession and scored the 3-0 that was the minimum we deserved from this game.

“I am very proud of this team. We have had a lot of criticism but we are always the most scoring team. We won two titles and last year we finished in second place and I continue playing this side. This is the side fans deserve.”
