Crystal Palace skipper Damien Delaney deflected Alexis Sanchez's header past his own keeper to deny battling Eagles a point

Arsenal sealed their first Premier League win of the season with a hard-fought victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Skipper Damien Delaney's unlucky own goal ten minutes into the second half proved to be the winner after the Eagles has battled back well.

The visitors took the lead in the 16th minute when Olivier Giroud brilliantly hooked the ball home from 16 yards.

Mesut Ozil took advantage of poor Joel Ward defending and his cross from the left was acrobatically volleyed home bythe Frenchman, reaching behind himself to do so.

It was no more than the Gunners deserved as they had dominated the early stages, with Alexis Sanchez coming close on several occasions.

However, out of the blue 12 minutes later, Palace leveled against the run of play.

Yannick Bolasie chested the ball back to James McArthur and his lay-off was clinically drilled home by Ward from 30 yards out.

Arsenal regained the lead on 55 minutes when Sanchez’s header was deflected into the top corner of the net by Delaney as he reached to clear the ball.

The Gunners then took control again and although Connor Wickham’s shot struck the woodwork, the home side rarely looked likely to level a second time although Lee failed to shoot when in space near the end and Ward saw a header well held by Petr Cech.
