Premier League: Sunderland thrash Everton to confirm survival
Sunderland brushed aside Everton 3-0 at a jubilant Stadium of Light to confirm their Premier League survival, while condemning bitter rivals Newcastle and Norwich to the drop.
Sunderland fullback Patrick van Aanholt opened the scoring from a free kick, thanks to a goalkeeping howler from Joel Robles who moved out of the way of his shot.
And defensive partner Lamine Kone doubled the Black Cats' lead when he thumped home a volley just before halftime.
Kone then doubled his tally and scored Sunderland's third from another close-range finish following a corner just before the hour mark.
