Premier League defender Gaëtan Bong has been fined after pleading guilty to speeding.

The Brighton & Hove Albion man was caught doing 90mph in a 70mph zone on the A27 in Sussex on December 29.

Although Bong was not present in court, his solicitor Mark Haslam told the court that Bong accepted the charges and ‘offers his apologies’.

“He was travelling back from training in the middle of the day,” Mr Haslam said.

“He was driving too fast – I accept that on his behalf.”

The 30-year-old was travelling back from Brighton’s training ground when he was snapped going too fast and has been fined £667 plus costs, as well as three points on his licence – he already had six.

He had also been charged with failing to respond to a court summons, however that charge was dropped as it emerged that Bong has submitted the paperwork to court, but it had not been logged.

Bong has started six of Brighton’s seven Premier League games this year, after coming on after 26 minutes of the opening day defeat to Watford, and made 72 appearances since he signed for them in 2015.
