Newcastle are closing in on a top-four finish with a romp past Everton, aided by Manchester United dropping points at Tottenham.

At the other end of the Premier League table on Thursday, Bournemouth edged Southampton to aid their survival bid.

Defending champions Manchester City defeated Arsenal in Wednesday’s huge title showdown. Kevin De Bruyne scored twice in a dominant 4-1 win for the second-placed side as they closed the gap on the leading Gunners, who have a two-point advantage having played twice more.

Brentford beat troubled Chelsea in one of the earlier kick-offs as Liverpool downed West Ham and Brighton suffered a defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Before that, a packed Tuesday schedule saw Crystal Palace beaten by Wolves and Fulham edged out by in-form Aston Villa, who moved up to fifth.
