The Premier League title this season is all but wrapped up but are Chelsea primed to be Manchester City’s biggest challengers next term?

The evidence since Thomas Tuchel’s appointment suggests so.

Chelsea have one eye on the weekend FA Cup Final against Leicester, having beaten Premier League champions City in the semi-final and last weekend in the league.

Then, once the domestic campaign is done and dusted, it will be all eyes on the Champions League Final where Tuchel will look to get the better of Pep Guardiola for the third time in five months.

Since Tuchel’s appointment, replacing the sacked Frank Lampard on January 26, Chelsea have risen from ninth themselves and look on course to finish in the top four and, with it, secure a seat back at Europe’s top table.

Chelsea have lost just twice in the league since Lampard was relieved of his duties, a bizarre 5-2 loss at home to West Brom who on Sunday were relegated from the Premier League and the midweek defeat to Arsenal thanks two a howler from Jorginho.

So, since late January, City still rule the roost but Chelsea are seemingly the only realistic challengers to their league crown as they sit just four points off the pace.

The Blues sit nine points clear of fifth place - and impress showing by Leeds, by the way - which marks a 14-point swing from the end of Lampard’s reign.

With two wins over City in recent weeks, it looks like Chelsea and Tuchel can be confident of getting more over them in the weeks and months ahead.
