PREP ROUNDUP: Northview-TH North boys rescheduled for Jan. 24

Jan. 16—The high school boys basketball game between Northview and host Terre Haute North, originally scheduled for Tuesday night, has been postponed and rescheduled for Jan. 24.

The JV-varsity twinbill will begin at 6 p.m. Jan. 24, North Athletic Director Kris Painter confirmed Tuesday morning.

In boys high school basketball played over the weekend:

—Northview 62, South Putnam 45 — At Brazil, Brayden Goff had a triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists for the winning Knights on Friday.

Northview, 4-6 overall and 3-3 in the Western Indiana Conference, hosts Plainfield on Saturday. South Putnam, 4-9 and 1-7, is at Cascade on Tuesday.

—South Vermillion 51, Fountain Central 43 — At Veedersburg, the Wildcats picked up their second straight crucial Wabash River Conference win Friday.

Luke Bush had 13 points and Brayson Shoults 11 for South Vermillion, now 8-6 and 2-1, hosts West Vigo on Wednesday.

Fountain Central, which got 21 points from Isaac Gayler and 12 from Will Harmon, is now 6-5 and 1-1 and hosts Seeger on Saturday.

—North Central 73, Vincennes Rivet 38 — At Farmersburg, TraShawn Cockrell scored 21 points and Ethan Willis 19 as the host Thunderbirds surged to victory after an slim 8-6 first-quarter lead Saturday.

Brody Shots led Rivet with 14 points.

—North Central 51, Paris 48 — At Paris, Ill., the visiting Thunderbirds picked up an interstate win Friday.

The balanced North Central attack included 13 points by Jayden Hooper and TraShaun Cockrell, 11 by Ethan Willis and 10 by Tyson Hardin. Cockrell and D.J. Suggs had eight assists each for the T-Birds, 6-6, who celebrate homecoming Saturday against Vincennes Rivet.

Paris, 5-14, got 13 points from Drew Rogers, 12 from Jackson Rigdon and 10 from Carter Eastham.

—Casey 58, Marshall 52 — At Casey, Ill., the host Warriors pulled away in the fourth quarter for a Little Illini Conference win Friday.

Grant Cochonour had 17 points, Hayden Parcel 16 and Ryan Richards 13 for Casey. Connor Sullivan had eight rebounds and Parcel and Nolan Clement five assists each.

Bentley Delp scored 25 points and Avery Sheets 12 for the Lions, 8-11. Marshall hosts Martinsville next Friday.

—Linton 46, Bloomfield 43 — At Linton, Jackson Miller's 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Miners a SouthWestern Indiana Athletic Conference win.

Linton, 9-4 and 3-0 in the SWIAC, hosts North Daviess next Friday. Bloomfield, 7-6 and 1-3, hosts South Knox on Saturday.

Girls basketball

—Paris 40, Casey 25 — At Lawrenceville, Ill., the second-seeded Tigers defeated the seventh-seeded Warriors Saturday in the first round of the Little Illini Tournament.

Graci Watson had 13 points and Kailey Young 11 for Paris, while Ella Shull and Kamryn Smith had seven each for Casey.

—Northview 50, South Putnam 31 — At Brazil, Brynlee Clark had a game-high 23 points as the Knights won for the 11th time in the past 12 games Friday.

Northview is now 17-3 and 7-1 in the Western Indiana Conference. South Putnam, 10-8 and 3-5, hosts Owen Valley on Saturday.

—Shakamak 48, North Vermillion 34 — At Jasonville, Ema Janouskova scored 11 points and Madelyn Kennett 10 to lead the host Lakers over the visiting Falcons on Thursday night.

Administration

—Martin gets second IHSAA term — North Vermillion High School Athletic Director Martin Brown has been re-elected to a second term on the Indiana High School Athletic Association Board of Directors. He's in his 34th year in education.

Wrestling

—Wolves take fourth at WRC — At Mecca, Parke Heritage placed fourth at the Wabash River Conference championships Saturday at Riverton Parke, led by Jerrid Graves' individual title in the 175-pound class.

Eight Wolves placed in the top four of their classes, including (106) Jayce Crosley and (190) Klayton Burgess second; (113) Katie Dowell, (215) Tucker Conley and (285) Anthony Berry third; and (138) Aidan Batt and (144) Ethan Fagg fourth.
