Quevin Castro leaves York City by mutual consent

QUEVIN CASTRO has left York City by mutual consent. 

Attacking midfielder Castro has departed York after one season at the club, having joined City in the Summer of 2023.

Castro was the first player to join the Minstermen under the majority ownership of Matt and Julie-Anne Uggla, announced on the same day as the duo's takeover.

The 22-year-old agreed to make the move to York upon the expiry of his deal with West Bromwich Albion, initially signing a two-year contract with City.

However, Castro has found game time limited in a difficult season with the Minstermen, making 16 appearances and scoring just one goal in his time in North Yorkshire.

Castro's only goal came via a deflection in City's 2-2 draw with Boreham Wood in September, in what was Neal Ardley's first match in charge.

The Portuguese-midfielder would also endure a loan spell in the Vanarama National League North with King's Lynn Town, making eight appearances when joining in late January, netting one goal.

He would later be recalled by newly-appointed manager Adam Hinshelwood, starting against both Kidderminster Harriers and Altrincham in early-March, before struggling for game time for the remainder of the campaign.

Castro becomes the second player to leave York by mutual consent upon the completion of the 2023/24 Vanarama National League season, alongside winger Kai Kennedy.

Castro had previously had loan spells with Notts County and Gateshead prior to his move to City, scoring a spectacular free-kick whilst with the Magpies in the 2022/23 campaign.
