England players' dogs – Quiz: Match the England player with their dog in fancy dress
England posted some unique mockups of the players' pets ahead of Euro 2024

England players will want to show their bulldog spirit at Euro 2024 – and they have been given portraits of their pups dressed up as royalty to hang in their bedrooms at their basecamp hotel.

Led by skipper Harry Kanine, the 26-man squad arrived at their Spa & Golf Resort Weimarer Land headquarters on Monday and had personal touches waiting for them in their rooms, including the pictures of their pets.

But their dogs were given a makeover by Purr & Mutt who “turn any pet into a work of art” with their portraits. Players will be away from their dogs until July 14 if England show their tournament pedigree and make it to the final in Berlin.

There will be no Kyle Walkies with their dogs while in Germany but the pictures were part of the reminders of home that included handwritten notes from loved ones, pictures printed on cushions and their favourite sweets.

Other members of Gareth Southgate’s squad include Luke Paw, who has been recovering from injury and the players will be hoping to go one better previous eras where players such as Emile Huskey were playing.

On Sunday they start their Group C matches with a clash against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen who have Aleksandar Mitrović up front. The tournament, in the home of Franz Beckenbauer, will kick-off tonight with Germany hosting Scotland, whose greatest goalscorer is Kenny Dogleash.

In the portraits, Conor Gallagher’s dog Chow Chow wore a sparkling gold crown. Jordan Pickford’s cavapoo, which he got in 2016, wore a pink gown and golden crown. Eberechi Eze’s dog and Harry Kane’s also appeared.

Aaron Ramsdale has previously spoken about his closeness to his Chow Chow dog. He told Sky News: “It helps so much. We’ve got a little group at football. So me, Rob Holding, and Kieran Tierney have done a few dog walks, which is great.

“Hardly speak about football when we go on these long walks. But even just myself, if it’s either a street walk, or a park, or a field, you don’t think about much -– you’re just out in the open.”
