Raheem Sterling issues inspirational response to young Manchester City fan who suffered racist abuse

Raheem Sterling has written an inspiring letter to a young Manchester City fan after he suffered racist abuse.

The England and City star, 24, wrote to the boy after his grandmother got in contact with the forward.

Sterling, who called out racism in several media outlets in December last year, told the fan to be proud of himself. He also sent the fan a signed picture.

“Stand tall, don’t let them take away your courage,” Sterling wrote.

“You are strong and very brave and your nanna is also very proud of you. Keep being you kid.

“Remember speaking up doesn’t always make life easy, but easy never changed anything.”

Sterling was recently the victim of such abuse when Manchester City lost 2-0 to Chelsea in December.

Four fans were subsequently suspended from Stamford Bridge, before Sterling took to Instagram later that week to take a stand against the media, which he claimed ‘fuel racism’ in their coverage of young black footballers.

“Regarding what was said at the Chelsea game as you can see by my reaction I just had to laugh because I don’t expect no better,” Sterling wrote in his post.

“So for all the news papers that don’t understand why people are racist in this day and age all i have to say is have a second thought about fair publicity an give all players an equal chance.”
