Rami Malek's upcoming thriller Amateur has been shut down in the middle of production.

The James Hawes directed-film, which is set to star Malek as a CIA cryptographer who is haunted by his wife's death after a terror attack, began principal photography in London on June 2.

However, Deadline has now reported that production on the film was paused today (July 13) as the historic SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) strike looks set to go ahead.

If the strike does go ahead, it would be the first simultaneous strike by Hollywood writers and actors in more than 60 years. (The Writers Guild of America went on strike in early May in a dispute over pay).

Film and television sets, like Malek's Amatuer, will likely be shut down, while actors will not be allowed to promote their upcoming projects.

The London premiere of Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, which Malek also stars in, was moved forward by one hour today to enable time for the cast to participate in press without violating strike regulations.

Amateur, which Malek is producing as well as starring in, will also feature Outlander's Caitriona Balfe and John Wick: Chapter 4's Laurence Fishburne.

Malek has certainly been keeping busy, as he's also been cast in a new TV series playing Hollywood icon Buster Keaton, who is well-known for his 1920s silent cinema work in films like The General and Sherlock Jr.

The Batman's Matt Reeves has signed on to direct the film, while Succession's Ted Cohen will write the script and executive produce alongside Malek.

But, if the strike goes ahead, it will probably be a while before we get to see it.
