Rangers address Ibrox venue switch after SPFL release Premiership fixtures
Rangers have vowed to provide an update to supporters 'at the earliest possible opportunity' after the SPFL released the fixture schedule for the new campaign.
Philippe Clement's side will begin their title bid with a trip to face Hearts at Tynecastle. And Rangers are then likely to be back in Edinburgh on successive weekends if they can secure the use of Murrayfield for their 'home' matches with Motherwell and Ross County. The first month of the campaign ends with the Old Firm showdown at Parkhead.
Over the festive period, Clement's side head to St Mirren on Boxing Day and Motherwell on December 29. The Old Firm will be the first match on 2025 on January 2.
Herald and Times Sport reported last week that the Ibrox board had been left facing the nightmare scenario of being forced to hit the road for the opening weeks of the season following lengthy delays to renovation works in the Copland Stand.
An issue in the delivery of steelwork from Asia has thrown the project - which will see enhanced disabled facilities and hundreds of new seats installed - into chaos and left executive chairman John Bennett facing huge headaches on and off the pitch. One senior member of staff was subsequently dismissed following the revelation that will come at a significant financial cost to the club.
And Herald and Times Sport revealed on Wednesday evening that no alternative venue had yet been secured ahead of the release of the schedule for the new campaign. Rangers will hold further talks with alternative venues and the SPFL as a matter of urgency, and will also have to keep UEFA updated on the situation ahead of the draw for their first tie in the coming weeks.
A statement on Thursday morning read: "Supporters will be aware of the delayed works in the Copland stand, likely to impact home fixtures in the early part of the new season.
"The club will provide an update to any changes to those home matches at the earliest possible opportunity. Rangers thanks our supporters for their patience."
