Rangers-bound Hamza Igamane has missed out on a place at the Olympics with Morocco.

Yet while the 21-year-old striker won't be playing at the Paris tournament, it means he will be able to get his Ibrox career up and running straight away. Igamane is expected to be unveiled as Philippe Clement's sixth summer signing in the coming days after being granted a work permit to complete his £2million switch from AS Far Rabat.

The Morocco Under-23 starlet played a key role in helping his country qualify for the Olympics and was tipped to be included in Tarik Sektioui's squad. But the starlet has been surprisingly omitted from the games which take place between July 24 to August 10.

However, Igamane's absence means the new signing will be available for Gers for the opening weeks of the season - including the crucial Champions League qualifiers. The forward could replace Cyriel Dessers in the frontline as the much-maligned Nigerian attracts interest from across Europe.

Greek outfit PAOK have been leading the race for the 29-year-old's signature this summer but it's believed clubs in France and Spain have also registered an interest. Dessers - who netted 22 goals in his debut season - is considering his options but Gers will look to recoup the £4.5million they paid to sign him from Cremonese last year.
