Rangers 'expected' to accept reasonable James Tavernier and Connor Goldson transfer bid as Steven Gerrard hopeful

Rangers are reportedly expected to accept a suitable offer from Al-Ettifaq for Connor Goldson and James Tavernier.

Former Gers boss Steven Gerrard is keen on being reunited with his former defensive duo who helped him win the Premiership title during his time at Ibrox. The Liverpool legend is looking to improve his backline after finishing sixth in the Saudi Pro League in his first season in charge.

He has already used the UK market to sign form Celtic pair Jack Hendry and Moussa Dembele as well as Gini Wijnaldum, Demarai Gray and Jordan Henderson. And now it looks like he is targeting more in the form of two players he knows he has relied upon in the past.

Light Blues manager Philippe Clement was quizzed on the reported interest towards the end of last season and insisted he expected both experienced defenders to still be with him for the next campaign. But Hi Koura is now reporting Gerrard and his club are of the belief Rangers will be willing to cash in if they receive a reasonable offer.

Meanwhile, Rangers yesterday confirmed the pre-contract signing of "exciting" young AC Milan defender Clinton Nsiala. The 20-year-old centre back will officially join up with his new side on July 1.

Recruitment chief Nils Koppen said: "We are excited to add a talented young player in Clinton to the squad. He joins as an exciting talent who we believe can develop and take his next steps under our manager, Philippe Clement, and his staff. We look forward to welcoming Clinton to Glasgow as we continue to shape the squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.”
