Can any team unseat Oklahoma from their run of college softball dominance?

The Sooners are looking for their fourth straight national championship and eighth title since 2000 in the 2024 Women's College World Series. Seven other teams made it to Oklahoma City, and they'll be trying to put an end to the streak when the tournament begins on Thursday.

Oklahoma is not only the favorite for this year's tournament, but the odds-on favorite to win the title after compiling a 54-6 regular season record. It was their fifth straight full season (not including 2020) with a win percentage over 90%.

As great as the Sooners have been this year, they still could have to face some challenges on their mission for another national title. Of the seven other teams remaining, two of them – fellow Big 12 schools Texas and Oklahoma State – beat them twice during the regular season this year.

WOMEN'S COLLEGE WORLD SERIES: Predictions, odds and bracket for softball tournament

College softball power rankings: 2024 Women's College World Series odds

1. Oklahoma Sooners (-170)

As dominant as Oklahoma was this year – and has been in recent years – the Sooners did not finish in the top spot in the final regular season USA TODAY/NFCA Coaches Poll and are not the No. 1 seed in this year's tournament. That has not stopped sportsbooks from positioning the team as the favorite to win the tournament.

With a team that finished second in the nation in batting average and sixth in the nation in ERA, this well-rounded Sooners squad should be considered dangerous. Perhaps even more dangerous now that they've got a chip on their shoulders and are coming in hot after a Big 12 tournament win.

2. Texas Longhorns (+400)

Texas is the top contender to prevent the Sooners from reaching a streak of four straight national titles as the team that snatched the top seed in this year's Women's College World Series. Despite a worse overall regular season record, the Longhorns beat Oklahoma twice during the regular season and edged the Sooners out for the regular season title.

The Big 12 regular-season champions led D-I softball with a .379 batting average as a team – 13 points better than the Sooners – and boasted a 1.93 ERA from their pitching staff, which was a top-10 mark this year.

T-3. Oklahoma State Cowgirls (+1200)

The Cowboys are the other team that defeated the Sooners twice during the regular season. They ended the 2024 regular season 49-10 overall, third in the Big 12 conference and fifth in the nation in the latest USA TODAY/NFCA Coaches Poll.

Oklahoma State has one of the best pitchers in the country in Lexi Kilfoyl, who pitched 171 innings this year with 146 strikeouts to 30 walks and a 1.06 ERA, good for second-best in the country.

T-3. Florida Gators (+1200)

Florida is the top non-Big 12 school remaining in the Women's College World Series. The Gators had a 46-12 record entering the tournament and have won five of their six games so far.

The 2024 SEC tournament champion boasts two hitters – junior outfielder Korbe Otis and senior shortstop Skylar Wallace – with batting averages above .420. Otis also led the nation with a .584 on-base percentage.

T-3. UCLA Bruins (+1200)

The undisputed champions of the Pac-12 round out the top five in betting odds for the eight teams remaining in the Women's College World Series. UCLA finished the year with a 37-10 record and 17-4 conference record that topped the conference before also winning the Pac-12 tournament. They were No. 6 in the most recent USA TODAY/NFCA Coaches Poll and in the Women's College World Series' national seeding.

Senior shortstop Maya Brady finished 15th in all of D-I softball with her .431 batting average, and redshirt senior catcher Sharlize Palacios swatted 20 home runs, good for a tie for ninth-most in the nation.
