Reading fans spread word of Royal woes in twin town during Euro 2024 trip

A family of die-hard Reading supporters have been sharing the message of the club's woes in the German twin town of Dusseldorf during a Euro 2024 trip.

The Emberson family from Tilehurst have had season tickets for over forty years and embarked on a European road trip which coincided with the start of the European Championships in Germany.

While in Dusseldorf, Reading's twin town since 1988, the family decided to spread the word of the Royals' woes.

Sell Before We Dai, a campaign group set up 12 months ago with the aim of ousting negligent owner Dai Yongge, were contacted and asked to produce a flier in German for the locals to understand. Within three hours, the material was produced.

Adorned in Reading shirts and armed with fliers in German, the foursome were keen to get the message out.

"Being in our twin town while the Euros were on just seemed like too good an opportunity to turn down. Having worn our Reading shirts in most towns on our trip, it was obvious that the interest was there from people of all nationalities. The more people who know about our troubles, the better."

Sell Before We Dai added: "German football is often seen as the pinnacle of fan-first ownership models, so we're delighted to see Reading fans take the message to the Euros. Dusseldorf is twinned with Reading, so it is only right that they share our disdain for Dai Yongge.

"Like England attacking under Southgate, our takeover seems to lack urgency, intensity and is increasingly painful for fans to endure...but at least Southgate occasionally communicates with the fans and media. Is it too much to ask that Nigel Howe does the same?"

The future of the club remains uncertain, with negotiations continuing with more than two parties.
