Real Madrid are hoping to round off 2019 with a home win against Athletic Bilbao to keep the pressure on LaLiga leaders Barcelona.

Real and Barca saw out a goalless Clasico at Camp Nou on Wednesday night, though Zinedine Zidane will feel it was a missed opportunity given that Real edged the contest.

That result left Real level on 36 points with Barca, though the Blaugrana moved three clear once more last night with a 4-1 win over Alaves.

It has been a testing year for Real, but Zidane looks to have found an identity for this side - and they will want to round off the calendar year with another three points as they seek to topple champions Barca in 2020.

Real Madrid 2-1 Bilbao: Real were on a fine winter run, but have drawn their last two games. The hosts should edge this one, but Bilbao are seventh and will be no pushovers as they boast one of the best defensive records in the top-flight.

Eden Hazard remains out of action until the New Year. Marcelo will be hoping to return from a calf problem, but Lucas Vazquez, James Rodriguez and Marco Asensio are all sidelined.
