Real Madrid vs Barcelona LIVE!

Barcelona were crowned Spanish Super Cup champions after goals from Gavi, Robert Lewandowski and Pedri earned them a 3-1 win over bitter rivals Real Madrid in Saudi Arabia on Sunday. They took the lead in the 33rd minute after Real defender Antonio Rudiger passed across his own area to Sergio Busquets, who began a move that ended with Gavi all alone inside the box to score with a precise left-foot strike.

Lewandowski extended the lead 12 minutes later on the counter when Frenkie de Jong found Gavi, who ghosted in behind Real's defensive line. He sprinted through the left channel before putting it on a plate for the Polish striker, who tapped into the back of the empty net.

Once again a costly mistake allowed Barcelona to score. Substitute Dani Ceballos lost the ball in midfield and Gavi sprinted forward and crossed for Pedri to fire point-black into the empty net. Karim Benzema scored a consolation goal for Real in added time, striking home on the rebound after Marc-Andre ter Stegen denied his first attempt.

90+1 mins: Ter Stegen starts three minutes of injury time with a routine catch from Benzema.

20:49 , Marc Mayo

90 mins: Here comes Fati as Garcia puts in a vital challenge to deny Benzema.

Gavi taken off to a rousing reception. Pedri also off for Sergi Roberto.

20:47 , Marc Mayo

88 mins: Lewandowski spots Courtois off his line and has a go from the halfway line..!

He just slips as he shoots and it drifts wide, the goalkeeper probably having it covered anyway.

79 mins: A fine parry from Ter Stegen to deny Rodrygo’s placed effort. A bit of one for the cameras but a smart stop nonetheless.

20:38 , Marc Mayo

78 mins: A word from the referee to calm both sides down and Real will be happy to see Dembele go off.

Raphinha, today linked with Arsenal, is introduced.

20:35 , Marc Mayo

75 mins: A fierce, competitive battle for a ball over the top between Lewandowski and Militao ends up with both players in a heap on the floor.

No foul either way, says the referee.

20:33 , Marc Mayo

74 mins: Good drive from distance by Asensio, Ter Stegen is equal to it though.

20:32 , Marc Mayo

71 mins: A bit of a reply as Vinicius goes down and fans’ call for a penalty is waved away. Kroos’ shot is saved.

More changes now as Kroos and Carvajal are off for Asensio and Nacho.

GGGOOOOOAAALLLL!!! Real Madrid 0-3 Barcelona

20:28 , Marc Mayo

68 mins: PEDRI GETS IN ON THE ACT!

Oh so simple for Barcelona as Ceballos gives it away and Lewandowski slips in Gavi, whose pass across the box is placed home by the unmarked Pedri.

That’s his first Clasico goal, too!

20:28 , Marc Mayo

67 mins: Dembele twists and turns up against Rudiger - the flag goes up though.

Araujo booked as Real play it quick and Vinicius is barged over.

20:24 , Marc Mayo

65 mins: Modric taken off, that is a surprise. Hardly the worst player on the pitch.

20:24 , Marc Mayo

64 mins: Ancelotti turns to his bench again and Ceballos will soon enter the fray. Lots of star power among the Madrid subs but not many players in form, at the peak of their game.

Benzema, though, looks to force the issue with a nice passing move just succumbing to Barcelona pressure.

20:22 , Marc Mayo

61 mins: Not seen a lot from Pedri today and he pings a skewed pass into the referee’s midriff. A drop ball continues their spell of possession.

20:18 , Marc Mayo

58 mins: End to end now, a fine game of football!

Dembele’s latest run is snuffed out as Balde picks it up and nearly picks out Gavi in the box.

Then it’s Vinicius’ turn although Benzema fails to get the ball out of his feet on the 18-yard line.

20:16 , Marc Mayo

56 mins: Rudiger directs a header high and over the bar under some good pressure from De Jong at the far post.

20:14 , Marc Mayo

54 mins: Another smart Dembele run and Rudiger can’t touch him as Carvajal clears.

The ball comes back and Courtois denies Lewandowski from a very tight angle.

Is 3-0 on the horizon?!

Barcelona chance!

20:11 , Marc Mayo

51 mins: Nothing grand from the capital club just yet as Vinicius is caught offside.

A goal will change things for sure but Barcelona looking good and Balde finds Dembele on a burst forward...

Courtois saves with his legs!

20:08 , Marc Mayo

49 mins: Madrid not happy as Christensen drags back Rodrygo in pretty convincing fashion. Yellow card.

20:05 , Marc Mayo

46 mins: Rodrygo on for Camavinga at the break, Valverde will drop back into the Real midfield.

Madrid a bit asleep as Barcelona launch a fresh ball wide for Lewandowski but its overhit.

19:42 , Marc Mayo

41 mins: A bit of frustration creeping in as Carvajal barges Gavi over by the Barcelona corner flag.

The young midfielder is greeted with loud ‘Gavi, Gavi’ chances from those of a Blaugrana persuasion inside the ground.

19:40 , Marc Mayo

39 mins: Madrid get a foot back on the ball as a corner is cleared. Nothing to test Ter Stegen yet, though.

19:38 , Marc Mayo

37 mins: A sumptuous back-to-front move from the Catalans leads to Real scrambling clear in the box and they win a useful foul.

Testing times for Los Blancos as Pedri breaks forward... Snuffed out.

33 mins: GAVI!

19:33 , Marc Mayo

32 mins: Rudiger powers a header clear and clatters into Courtois for his troubles, unsurprisingly leaving the defender flat on his back!

He’s alright to continue, though.

19:32 , Marc Mayo

31 mins: Mendy booked for felling Dembele on the edge of the box. The winger’s pace doing the business, there.

19:31 , Marc Mayo

30 mins: A bit of a lull in the game which is no surprise after a fast start.

Araujo tries to break the malaise with a run from right-back, Dembele’s cross is cleared.

19:30 , Marc Mayo

28 mins: Only that Benzema chance to go on for Madrid so far with Lewandowski hitting the post for Barcelona.

19:26 , Marc Mayo

25 mins: Vinicius wanders inside and a cute dink over the top allows Benzema to trouble Ter Stegen - he’s offside, though.

19:23 , Marc Mayo

22 mins: A Mexican Wave does the rounds as a Dembele cutback into the box catches Pedri on his heels.

19:21 , Marc Mayo

20 mins: Back up the other end, Militao blocks De Jong’s drive well and Balde fires a first time cross which evades everyone.

It may have been intended as a shot but it was hardly the worst cross in the world, in fact.

Real Madrid chance!

19:19 , Marc Mayo

19 mins: Better from Los Blancos as a good Mendy cross picks out Benzema, who places a trademark header across goal and only just wide!

19:18 , Marc Mayo

18 mins: Ancelotti is naturally as cool as a cucumber but even the Italian is starting to bark some instructions from the touchline to try and sharpen up his Real charges.

A spell of possession now to take the edge off this Clasico.

19:16 , Marc Mayo

15 mins: Fair to say Barcelona have enjoyed the better of the first quarter of an hour.

OFF THE POST!

19:14 , Marc Mayo

13 mins: Lewandowski takes aim from 20 yards and Courtois tips it onto the woodwork!

Balde has a great chance on the rebound... over!

19:12 , Marc Mayo

11 mins: Just over from Lewandowski as he backpeddled to reach a decent De Jong cross.

19:10 , Marc Mayo

9 mins: Great work by Camavinga to win the ball and ride a couple of chances but Araujo smartly ends Real’s move.

A loose Vinicius touch goes into touch although that doesn’t stop the Uruguayan flying in with a challenge! He caught his man for sure, even if a throw-in had already been given...

Barcelona chance!

19:07 , Marc Mayo

6 mins: Busquets clipped by Kroos and a lovely free-kick is chipped to the far post as Araujo evades his marker...

He just can’t make serious contact from only a couple of yards out!

19:05 , Marc Mayo

4 mins: The benefit of playing this Supercopa mid-season is that this does not at all feel like a summer friendly. Riyadh is making for a vibrant atmosphere, also.

Lots of energy being reciprocated on the pitch.

19:03 , Marc Mayo

3 mins: Both sides keen to press their opponent off the ball, which should make for a good game.

Mendy nicks the ball off a protesting Lewandowski but Kounde does well to win a goal kick.

19:02 , Marc Mayo

1 mins: Gavi lining up wide left in attack for Barcelona, Valverde also high up on the pitch in Madrid’s right-wing position.

Benzema vs Lewandowski

Karim Benzema has scored in three consecutive games since the restart with his season a bit stunted by injuries.

Robert Lewandowski, meanwhile, ended a bit of a dry run (by his standards) by scoring his 19th of the season in midweek - almost double Benzema’s tally!

Xavi nonplussed by records

18:34 , Marc Mayo

As he chases his first Barcelona trophy as a coach, Xavi has insisted he is not concerned by Carlo Ancelotti’s record of not losing a final since 2010.

“I see Real Madrid in the same way that I always have - they're strong everywhere,” Xavi said. “They're well organised tactically, and strong.

“They have players who can make a difference and are a really strong opponent. They're the domestic and European champions. Real Madrid are Real Madrid and they have an extra level in finals.

“We are very motivated and have that little bit extra because it's Real Madrid. Everything would change with a trophy in the cabinet, but Real Madrid are dangerous even if they don't play well.”

Winning football matches, not trophies, the message from the effervescently calm Carlo Ancelotti ahead of the game.

The Real Madrid boss said: “We're not thinking about winning every title.

“We're simply focused on competing in every competition and in every game. Now we have to think about this match and this title that we're playing for. We shouldn't get carried away with more difficult things.

“We have to take it one step at a time and head into the closing stretch of the season in a good position.”
