Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal opened up on his interaction with Indian legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar and how it motivated him to make changes in his game.

The 19-year-old Jaiswal, who toured with Mumbai’s team and won the ODI series in Muscat, combinedly scored close to 300 runs in the ODI and T20 series.

Jaiswal said that before the team left for Oman, Tendulkar had addressed them in a session where the youngster got to learn a lot about his need to improve with his technical skills from the highest international run-scorer.

“My idol has always been Sachin Tendulkar, and I was really fortunate to have a conversation with him before the Oman tour. I was glad that Mumbai Cricket Association invited him for a session before we left from Mumbai to play against Oman,” Jaiswal was quoted as saying in a media release.

“I was over the moon when I first heard he was going to be present there, and when I had the chance to speak to him at length, he was really humble and helped me on some skills where he thought I could improve on,” he added.

The youngster played only three games for RR in the first half of IPL and his scores read 22, 32 and 12 with a batting average of 22. The Mumbai prodigious batsman amassed 400 runs from six innings in the 2020 ICC U-19 World Cup with the help of four half-centuries and a hundred.

Jaiswal was delighted to know that Tendulkar kept the track of his game and is restless to make amendments to his game after receiving suggestions from the ‘God of Cricket’.

“It was good to see that a legend like him was aware of my game, and it was certainly a very happy moment for me. I can’t wait to keep implementing those things in my game and express myself better on the field,” Jaiswal mentioned.

Jaiswal became the youngest player to score a double hundred in List A cricket. In a Vijay Hazare Trophy match between Mumbai and Jharkhand, the left-handed batsman scored 203 from 154 balls.

Jaiswal said that he had many more conversations with the former Indian cricketer and is blessed to have him as a mentor.

“We have had so many chats on what I can do during the game – how I should think, what my approach will be against which bowler, how I can change the tempo of the game, etc.

“I’m really fortunate to have a mentor like him. I also feel the best thing about him is that he’s always willing to listen and give his time to the players,” the youngster said.

Jaiswal has joined the Rajasthan Royals camp and is likely to continue to open for them in the second phase of IPL 2021.
