A YORK boy has become the youngest golfer to ever hit a hole in one on his local course.

Oliver Holmes, 11, from Wheldrake, has only been playing golf for a little over a year but is now among an elite group of players who have managed to make a hole in one at Fulford Golf Club.

Accompanied by his two playing partners, older brother Finlay Holmes and Rhys Harrison, Oliver achieved his hole in one on Easter Sunday on the par 3 fifth hole.

He is thought to be the youngest player ever to accomplish the feat at the club.

Club manager Alistair Cook said: “I can confirm that Oliver Holmes recorded a hole in one on the 5th at Fulford.

“This is a remarkable achievement for an 11-year-old, a feat that most golfers never achieve. Fulford Golf Club is rightly proud of Oliver who has a great future in golf.”

Oliver plays on the course multiple times per week and currently has a handicap of 22, something he hopes to bring down further over the summer as he trains more and grows stronger and taller.

Dad Will Holmes said: “When he [Oliver] went into the clubhouse afterwards, everyone wanted to shake his hand and high five him. A lot of people go through their whole career and don’t manage it so he’s incredibly lucky.

“Oliver plays every opportunity he can. He loves the game and to achieve what he has is a bit crazy, he’s still coming to terms with it.”
