Rashad Evans Heads to Mexico for Second UFC Middleweight Bout

A bout between two former light heavyweight champions is being targeted for the UFC on Fox 19 event.

Brazilian news outlet Combate reported on Wednesday that the UFC is looking to pit Rashad Evans against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua on the April 16 fight card.

Evans (19-4-1) returned from a 23-month layoff due to injures in October, losing to Ryan Bader by unanimous decision. Finally healthy, Evans looks to remain in the top ten rankings and mount another charge toward the top of the 205-pound division.

Rua (23-10) snapped a two-fight losing streak in his last outing in August. He defeated Antonio Rogerio Nogueira by unanimous decision at UFC 190 in a bout that earned them Fight of the Night honors. Currently ranked number eight, a win over Evans would move the Brazilian up in the rankings.

UFC on FOX 19 is expected to take place in Tampa, Fla.
