Rams trade 2-time Pro Bowl CB Marcus Peters to Ravens

UPDATE:

Since trading Marcus Peters, the Rams have traded for Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

The Los Angeles Rams have traded cornerback Marcus Peters to the Baltimore Ravens for linebacker Kenny Young and an undisclosed draft pick.

FS1’s Rob Parker first reported the deal, which the Ravens later confirmed.

The Rams traded for the one-time All-Pro cornerback in the 2018 offseason, sending a second- and fourth-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs. Entering this season, he led the NFL in interceptions with 22 since joining the league as a first-round draft pick in 2015.

He made the Pro Bowl in each of his first two seasons with the Chiefs. Peters logged three interceptions and 43 tackles while starting all 16 games in his first season with the Rams in 2018. He has a pair of interceptions in six starts this year.

Peters is known for making big plays, but is also prone to gambling and giving up big pass plays to receivers.

Strange timing with Talib injury

His departure leaves questions for the Rams secondary after they placed opposite starting cornerback Aqib Talib on injured reserve Monday with a rib injury. Talib reportedly could return this season, but the loss of both starting cornerbacks amounts to a significant shakeup for the defending NFC champions.

Nickell Robey-Coleman and Troy Hill are listed as the top backup cornerbacks on the Rams depth chart.

Peters will be a free agent after the season

Peters, 26, is playing on the final year of his rookie contract and is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Marlon Humphrey and Brandon Carr are the starting cornerbacks in Baltimore. Peters is likely to replace one of them in the starting lineup.

Young is a second-year pro whom the Ravens drafted out of UCLA in the fourth round in 2018. He played in all 16 games as a rookie, including three starts. He’s started three games this season in Baltimore. He has tallied 64 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks in 21 career games.

Rams make another deal

The Rams made another trade prior to moving Peters, sending an undisclosed 2021 draft pick to the Cleveland Browns for second-year center Austin Corbett.

The Browns drafted Corbett in the second round of the 2018 draft out of Nevada, but he has played sparingly, picking up one start over 14 appearances since entering the league.

The Rams’ offensive line struggles came to a head on Sunday in a 20-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers that saw quarterback Jared Goff manage just 78 passing yards while facing constant pressure.
