Residents told to shut windows after fire in Essex metal recycling building
A metal recycling building was engulfed in fire on Tuesday morning prompting 15 calls to emergency services.
Essex Fire Services were called to the scene in Robjohns Road, Chelmsford, with reports of a fire at 7.45am.
A plume of smoke could be seen from nearby main roads and pictures posted on social media showed thick smoke filling the air.
The building contained more than 10 tonnes of waste metal.

Local businesses and residents are being advised by @ECFRS to keep their windows and doors shut as the fire is producing a lot of smoke.

Nearby residents were advised to close their windows and doors to avoid inhaling the smoke.
Six fire engines were sent to battle the blaze which was extinguished about 9am, reported Essex Live.
Emergency services will remain at the scene for the rest of the morning and they are also urging people to avoid the area to keep traffic to a minimum.
The incident comes just a day after a fire broke out at the ‘Fancy Fry takeaway’ on Moulsham Street, Chelmsford.
