Revealed: The surprise name punters are tipping to lift the Premier League trophy
Punters are backing Liverpool to win their first ever Premier League title ahead of the new season.
While Manchester City are the clear favourites to retain their title, Liverpool’s impressive transfer business means they are being tipped by many to mount a challenge.
According to Betfair, 29 per cent of bets on Premier League title winners have been for Liverpool, with just seven per cent for City.

That is likely to be lower because of their short odds – 8/13 with Betfair – rather than because fans are not expecting City to be up there again.
Around 17 per cent of punters are backing Arsenal to win their first title since 2004 after the departure of Arsene Wenger. Unai Emery’s side have beefed up their spine this summer, and still possess impressive firepower up front.
Despite their poor pre-season, Manchester United are being backed by 11 per cent of punters, Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs are yet to make a summer signing and they are being tipped by eight per cent, whilst Chelsea have been backed by seven per cent of customers, despite a chaotic summer.
Surprisingly West Ham’s business sees six per cent of Betfair’s customers betting on them, whilst newly promoted Wolves and their Portuguese contingent have been backed by five per cent.
Nineteen of the 20 teams in the top flight have been bet on by one per cent Betfair customers, with only Javi Gracia’s Watford not even having one per cent of bets placed on them.
