Robbie Lawler Confirmed Out of Donald Cerrone Fight at UFC New York

Robbie Lawler is, in fact, out of his bout with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, which was the first bout revealed for UFC 205 on Nov. 12 at Madison Square Garden.

MMAWeekly.com sources early Saturday morning confirmed a late Friday night report from TMZ Sports that Lawler had pulled out of the fight. Although our sources did not divulge the nature of Lawler's withdrawal, MMAFighting.com reported that “Lawler decided he needed a little more time to get ready for the fight after getting knocked out by Tyron Woodley at UFC 201 in late July.”

It was unclear at the time of publication if Lawler's concerns were of a medical nature.

UFC president Dana White had confirmed the bout earlier in the week, telling Cleveland radio show host Anthony Lima that the papers were “signed off” for Lawler vs. Cerrone.

Though a couple other fights have been rumored for UFC 205, the only other bout that MMAWeekly.com has confirmed is a fight between Tim Kennedy and Rashad Evans. It will mark Evans' middleweight debut, as well as Kennedy's first fight in more than two years.

The UFC is reportedly seeking a new opponent to keep Cerrone on its New York debut event.

Cerrone, however, tried to horn in on Saturday night's UFC 203 in Cleveland. After learning that CB Dollaway had to withdraw from his Saturday night fight with Francimar Barroso after being injured in an elevator accident at the host hotel, Cerrone allegedly texted UFC president Dana White offering to fight.

Even if he were serious, that, of course, couldn't happen at such a late point in the process. With no time left to secure a new opponent, the fight was cancelled.
