Roff blanks Asher 5-0 in Monday matchup

Mar. 6—ROFF — The Roff High School baseball team got strong outings from pitchers Caden Graves and Gavin Wilson in a 5-0 win over local foe Asher Monday at Tiger Field.

Roff improved to 3-0 on the young season, while Asher left town at 1-1.

Coach Derek Collins' RHS club is scheduled to host Dewar at 4:30 p.m. Thursday and travels to Kingston at noon on Saturday.

Asher is at home against Tushka on Friday at 5 p.m. and Calera at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Roff 5, Asher 0

Graves was in complete control on the mound for Roff. He struck out 10, walked just one and allowed just two hits in four scoreless innings. Wilson pitched the final three frames for Roff and finished with five strikeouts and one walk.

Roff broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Tigers tacked on two more in the sixth frame.

Wilson and Oliver Gregory both had two hits apiece in an eight-hit Roff offense. Wilson finished 2-for-4 with a double and Gregory ended up 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Kaden Darnell, Graves and Mason Dansby all drove in runs for the Tigers.

Asher got a double from Conner Thompson and base hits from Brogan Culwell and Jordyn Litson.

Culwell absorbed the mound loss for Asher. He struck out seven, walked three and allowed three earned runs in 4.2 innings of work.

Longhorns rally past host Stratford

Stonewall rallied from an early 4-1 deficit to surge past host Stratford 15-4 in a meeting between the two local teams on Monday.

The Longhorns traveled to Moss Tuesday and are headed to Konawa at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Bulldogs hosted Dibble Tuesday and are at Stroud Thursday.

Stonewall 15, Stratford 4

Stratford scratched for three runs in the bottom of the first inning and added a run in the second frame to build an early 4-1 lead,

But the Longhorns responded with a six-run volley in the top of the fourth inning and tacked on eight more runs in the sixth frame to put the game out of reach.

Taegus Pogue led a 10-hit Stonewall offense, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Laden Bailey finished 2-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored for the Longhorns. Jaxson Christian went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Four Stonewall pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts, eight walks and two hit batters in the contest. Tyler Larsh was credited with the pitching victory.

Canaan Weddle had the lone Stratford hit in the contest. He finished 1-for-2 with an RBI, a walk and a run scored. Walker Chandler scored twice for the Bulldogs.

Coalgate hangs 31 on Clayton

COALGATE — The Coalgate High School baseball team got off an impressive start to the spring season by bombarding Clayton 31-0 in the first game of its own festival Monday evening.

The Wildcats defeated Soper 16-7 later in the evening to improve to 2-0.

Coalgate hosted Konawa on Tuesday and is set to host Rock Creek on Thursday.

Game 1

Coalgate 31, Clayton 0

The Wildcats scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning before erupting for 22 runs in the second frame.

Senior Cade Cometti led a 14-hit Coalgate offense, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, six RBIs and three runs scored.

Easton Wilkinson finished 2-for-3 with two walks, a double, six RBIs and two runs scored for the Wildcats. Dalton O'dell went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, two walks and scored four runs as the CHS leadoff hitter.

Dax Childers tossed a three-inning, no-hitter for the Wildcats. He struck out six of the 10 batters he faced.

Game 2

Coalgate 16, Soper 7

The Wildcats scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control early. The Red Bears got within 11-7 before Coalgate scored five times in the bottom of the fifth to end the game via the run rule.

Coalgate was able to overcome 13 walks in the contest thanks in part to five Soper errors.

The Wildcats collected five total hits from five different players. Brody McCollum and Ryfle Gold both hit doubles for the CHS club.
