Ronaldinho slaughters Brazil in astonishing rant as Alisson and Co prepare for Copa America

Ronaldinho has slaughtered the Brazil national team, which includes Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, in an astonishing rant on the eve of Copa America.

The Brazil legend has slammed the current squad as ‘one of the worst teams in recent years’, declaring it is full of ‘average players’ and possesses ‘no respectable leaders’.

The tournament gets underway in the United States on June 20 and Brazil, who lost to Argentina in the final despite hosting the competition last time out back in 2021, are looking to be crowned continental champions for the 10th time.

Brazil, who are in Group D with Colombia, Paraguay and Costa Rica, come into the tournament off the back of a 1-1 draw with the United States and last-minute 3-2 victory over Mexico in their two warm-up friendlies.

, Liverpool No.1 Alisson captained Brazil in their 3-2 victory over Mexico, and, having predominantly lost his place since the 2022 World Cup, is set to be first-choice for the tournament in the absence of the injured Ederson.

Brazil have won just two competitive matches since suffering a World Cup quarter-final exit to Croatia, with the last coming last September, and lost their three most recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

And after their disappointing warm-up friendlies, that has seemingly been too much for Ronaldinho, who won the World Cup, Copa America and Confederations Cup during a 14-year international career with Brazil, for whom he won 97 caps and scored 33 goals.

"That's it folks, I've had enough," Ronaldinho wrote on Instagram. "This is a sad moment for those who love Brazilian soccer.

“It's getting hard to find the spirit to watch the games. This is perhaps one of the worst teams in recent years, it has no respectable leaders, only average players for the majority.

"I've been following football since I was a kid, long before I thought about becoming a player, and I've never seen a situation as bad as this.

“Lack of love for the shirt, lack of grit and the most important of all: football. I'll repeat, our performance has been one of the worst things I've ever seen.

“Such a shame. I therefore declare my resignation. I will not watch any CONMEBOL Copa AmericaTM game, nor celebrate any victory.”

Alisson is the second most experienced player in head coach Dorvial’s squad with 65 caps, behind only Marquinhos, and was one of the star players when Brazil last won the Copa America in 2019.

While the squad contains the likes of Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo, Brazil go into the tournament without the likes of Neymar and Ederson because of injury, while Casemiro, Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison are among some of the star names who have been left out.
