Ronda Rousey Backs Socialist Bernie Sanders for President
UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has already made her pick for president, and no, contrary to his belief, it's not Donald Trump. Rousey is backing democratic party primary candidate Bernie Sanders.
That's not to say that Rousey is a dyed in the wool Democrat, nor is she a hardcore Socialist, she's actually one of wave of Americans that has grown extremely frustrated with politics as usual, and the monetary corruption in the current two-party system.
“I’m voting for Bernie Sanders because he doesn’t take any corporate money,” Rousey told Maxim on Tuesday. “I don’t think politicians should be allowed to take money for their campaigns from outside interests.”

Aside from his purported denial of donations from corporate PACs (political action committees that lobby on the behalf of a corporation), Sanders is a self-described democratic socialist who champions such ideas as income equality, universal healthcare, campaign finance reform, raising the minimum wage, providing free college education, and supports increased taxes, particularly on the wealthiest of Americans.
In her interview with Maxim, however, Rousey didn't indicate which of Sanders' ideas she might support, aside from appreciating the idea that he doesn't take corporate PAC money. She focused more on her idea that the currently system is broken, and needs some change injected into it.
Although Rousey is a champion for empowering women, she said she wouldn't vote for Hilary Clinton if the former Secretary of State, as expected, gets the Democrats nod over Sanders.
“If he doesn’t win against Hillary, then I’ll probably vote for a third party again. To be honest, in 2012 I was against both candidates and so I just picked any third party because I thought if more people voted for third parties then they’d have to take third parties seriously.
“I voted for Roseanne last time,” Rousey continued. “I was so unimpressed with the whole presidential campaign that I picked whatever third party I saw, and I saw Roseanne and thought, ‘That’s awesome.' But I’m really pulling for Sanders this time. I hope it works out.”
While Sanders and Clinton will be slugging out with each for the next several months, Rousey steps back in the Octagon this weekend at UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia, where she puts her belt on the line against former world boxing champion Holly Holm.
