For Ronda Rousey, It's About Being Remembered as the Greatest Ever
Ronda Rousey has hit a lot of milestones and set a lot of records, but she's satisfied with that. She wants to be remembered as the best fighter ever.
That's not an easy target to hit. Rousey is currently undefeated at 12-0 as a professional and 3-0 as an amateur, having won all but a single fight in the first round. But to be remembered as the greatest ever, she has to top the likes of Fedor Emelianenko, Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre, Jon Jones, Jose Aldo, Demetrious Johnson, and numerous others, who, arguably, have had a more established roster of competition to prove themselves against.
Rousey, however, is starting to build her own outstanding resume, and the competition is coming from much more accomplished athletes than in the past. She's defeated Olympic caliber wrestlers, jiu-jitsu experts, and brawlers. Next up is Holly Holm, a multiple-time world championship boxer that is also undefeated in MMA. But Rousey again feels up to the task.

“In MMA, you start striking, so I’ll have to outbox her at some extent to grapple at all,” Rousey said about boxing with the former world champ on Sunday's The OT on FOX. “But I feel like in mixed martial arts, I’m a better striker for mixed martial arts.”
It's the type of fight that Rousey needs to continue cementing her legacy as one of the greatest fighters of all time. She is beating specialists in every discipline, often at their own specialty, and Holm is no different. As the champ said, she'll have to box with her whether she chooses to or not, at least to some extent.
But it's not about beating Holm at UFC 193 on Nov. 14 for Rousey. It's about compiling that list, building that resume, that argues Rousey is the best of all time. Holly Holm is merely the name of her next opponent… the next opponent that she hopes leads to a legacy that lives far beyond her time in the Octagon.
“It’s not about the individual girls or the individual matches anymore,” she said. “I want to be remembered for the greatest that ever did this sport and to retire undefeated. In order to retire undefeated, every single one of these fights matters.”
