Ronda Rousey Skips Miesha Tate Trilogy, Faces Holly Holm at UFC 195
Although Miesha Tate was the initial plan for UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey‘s next title defense, but inexplicably, she has been set to the side in favor of Holly Holm.
Rousey made a special appearance on the “Good Morning America” television show on Friday morning, where she announced the change in plans, saying she would next face Holm on Jan. 2 at UFC 195 in Las Vegas.
“January 2, I'll be fighting Holly Holm, who's the most decorated striker we have in all of mixed martial arts,” Rousey said. “Not the women's division, not the bantamweight division. She's a 19-time boxing champion. Holly Holm was The Ring magazine pound-for-pound Fighter of the Year, and definitely my biggest challenge to date.”
The bout will see the UFC return to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas just three weeks after the blockbuster UFC 194 lands there. UFC 194 features Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor unifying the featherweight championship and Chris Weidman putting his middleweight strap on the line against Luke Rockhold.
The next shot at Rousey was initially promised to Tate at the UFC on FOX 16 post-fight press conference, after Tate's impressive unanimous-decision victory over Jessica Eye. “Miesha is such a durable human being,” said UFC president Dana White. “She has worked her way back to Ronda Rousey.”

There was a lot of debate by fans and pundits following the announcement, as Rousey has already defeated Tate twice, and it appears that UFC officials didn't receive the response they wanted for the trilogy.
The GMA hosts teased Rousey about the announcement, questioning why anyone should by a ticket to her fights when her fights are so easy and they end so quickly. Rousey won her last five fights in a combined three minutes and eight seconds.
“Nobody's easy until after you beat them,” she retorted. “With Holly Holm, she's the type that's ready to go 12 boxing rounds. She's not the average chick that I'd fight. She is the best striker I've ever fought and the striking is something I learned much later in my career. I don't ever expect fights to be easy and fast.”
