Ross Pearson vs. Evan Dunham Announced as UFC Fight Night 72 Co-Main Event

The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced on Monday that a lightweight bout between Ross Pearson (17-8, 1 NC) and Evan Dunham (15-6) would be the co-main event of the promotion’s first fight card in Scotland, UFC Fight Night 72.

Pearson is coming off a second-round knockout win over Sam Stout at UFC 185 in March that earned him a Performance of the Night bonus. The Englishman looks forward to fighting close to home.

“I’m always excited to come home and fight in front of my friends and family,” said the 30-year-old Pearson in a statement. “There’s nothing better than coming back to where it all started, it means so much more and it makes me work harder in my camp and to get that finish.

“Evan is a dangerous guy, I definitely wanted this fight; he’s been around for a while and has made a name for himself. Stylistically this is a great match up, he’ll come forward but I’m the one with the power and technical ability to get the finish,” he said.

Pearson promises an exciting fight and says he’ll be looking to knock Dunham out.

“The first UFC event in Scotland is going to be an amazing night – people will see world class fighters and fights. You can expect to see fireworks from me, I’m going in looking for that knockout and to make a statement,” said Pearson.

Dunham is coming off a unanimous decision win over Rodrigo Damm at UFC 182 in January. The winner of three Fight of the Night awards, Dunham will be looking to get another win when he faces Pearson.

UFC Fight Night 72 takes place at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow on July 18. The event is headlined by a middleweight matchup between ninth-ranked Michael Bisping and tenth-ranked Thales Leites.
