ROUNDUP: Hatchets top Vikings; Linton turns tables on Parke Heritage

Feb. 21—West Vigo's Zeke Tanoos poured in a game-high 22 points, but the host Washington Hatchets secured their 13th victory with a 69-50 win over the Vikings in boys high school basketball Tuesday night.

Washington (now 13-8) led 17-8, 33-17 and 53-28 at the quarter breaks.

The Vikings (11-12) also got 12 points from Talan Boehler, including four 3-pointers, and 10 points from Garrett Pugh.

The Hatchets were led by Colton Stowers with 20 points, Brant Neidigh with 15 and Chris Meredith with 11.

West Vigo plays the host team on Tuesday at the Class 3A Owen Valley Sectional.

In other boys high school basketball:

—Linton 52, Parke Heritage 46 — At Linton, Conner Daily scored 21 points, including a crucial 12 in the third quarter, to lead the host Miners to a win Tuesday night.

Paul Oliver added 12 for Linton.

Parke Heritage led 26-21 at halftime, but the Miners outscored the Wolves 19-10 in the third quarter, fueled by Daily's outburst, to get the win.

Parke Heritage won the previous meeting of the two teams, 56-36 in the Wabash Valley Classic on Dec. 27.

Renn Harper and Treigh Schelsky led the Wolves with 15 points each.

Linton, 17-4, has won nine straight and plays Friday at North Central. Parke Heritage, 18-5, had a six-game winning streak snapped and hosts Terre Haute South on Friday.

—North Central 73, Riverton Parke 68 — At Farmersburg, the host Thunderbirds led at all three quarter breaks, helping buffer the impact of the Panthers' 23-point fourth quarter Tuesday night.

North Central led 12-11, 36-27 and 55-45 at the first three stops, before Riverton Parke outscored the T-birds 23-18 in the fourth quarter.

North Central (10-11) plays Friday at Owen Valley. Riverton Parke (3-18) plays host to South Vermillion at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

College baseball

—MVC honors Pruitt — Indiana State baseball has started the season 3-0. Right-handed starter Jacob Pruitt was named Pitcher of the Week in the Missouri Valley Conference, the league announced Monday.

The sophomore from Yorktown, Ind., went a career-long six scoreless innings in a 2-1 win against UConn on Saturday, and allowed a pair of hits and stuck out nine.

Women's basketball

—Saint Mary-of-the-Woods 81, Brescia 51 — At Hamilton Arena, the host Pomeroys celebrated Allyson Hardiek's Senior Night in dominant fashion Tuesday.

Brooklynn Jones led four Pomeroys in double figures with 16 points along with 11 rebounds. Hardiek contrinbuted 13 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots.

Other double-figure scorers for SMWC included Destiny Thomas and Abby Worley with 14 points each.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods improved to 18-9 for the season and 13-4 in River States Conference play, while Brescia dropped to 5-21 and 0-17 respectively.

The Pomeroys, in strong contention for a top-three seed in next week's conference tournament, close their regular season Saturday at Oakland City.
