ROUNDUP: Rose football players named to All-America team

Dec. 16—Rose-Hulman seniors Andrew Toler and Jailen Hobbs have been named D3football.com All-Americas.

Toler earned first-team honors as a punter, which makes him the first to be a first-teamer from that site in school history.

Hobbs earned the fourth All-America honors of his illustrious career and his second this season. He was named to the third team. Hobbs is just the ninth student-athlete in school history to earn four All-America honors in their career, joining six track-only athletes and two swimmers, and the first since Ellie Hong in 2017.

Rose-Hulman recorded its fifth consecutive top-two finish in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 6-1 conference record. The Engineers also had a 13th consecutive season at .500 or above under the leadership of head coach Jeff Sokol, who has a career record of 84-43 (75-22 HCAC). The 2024 season begins with a road game at DePauw University on Saturday, September 7.

Women's basketball

—Saint Mary-of-the-Woods 83, Midway 73 — At Midway, Ky., the visiting Pomeroys led from start to finish for their first-ever win over Midway on Friday.

Brooklynn Jones had a season-high 26 points plus nine rebounds. Kylee Stepp scored 13.

Now 7-3 overall, 3-0 in the River States Conference, the Pomeroys play next at the Ave Maria Invitational after Christmas in Ave Maria, Fla.

Boys basketball

—Northview 52, North Putnam 44 — At Brazil, Brayden Goff had 24 points Friday as the Knights picked up their first win of the season.

Now 1-3, 1-2 in the Western Indiana Conference, the Knights play next at the First Financial Wabash Valley Classic on Dec. 26 against Parke Heritage.

North Putnam, 2-3 and 2-2, hosts Indian Creek on Saturday.

—Dugger Union 31, Riverton Parke 29 — At Dugger, the host Bulldogs broke a tie in the final seconds Friday.

Dugger is now 2-6 and plays Saturday at Tecumseh.

Riverton Parke is 2-4 and hosts Cloverdale on Saturday.

—Linton 65, Lovejoy (Ill.) 45 — At Wayne City, Ill., the Miners got 19 points from Paul Oliver and 17 each from Jamison Fields and Conner Daily in the Wayne City Tournament on Friday.

Now 4-1, the Miners play their final tournament game Saturday.

—Lawrenceville 74, Marshall 47 — At Lawrenceville, Ill., Trey Scott and Payton McGuire had 10 points each and Avery Sheets nine but the Lions suffered a Little Illini Conference loss Friday.

Marshall is 3-5, 1-2 in the LIC, and hosts North Central on Saturday. The Indians are 8-2 and 2-0.

—Newton 56, Robinson 49 — At Robinson, Ill., Noah Gilmore's 25 points weren't enough in the Little Illini Conference matchup Friday.

Robinson, 1-9 and 1-2, is idle until playing Sullivan on Dec. 26 at the Wabash Valley Classic. Newton is 7-2 and 2-0.

—Casey 65, Fairfield 39 — At Casey, Ill., Hayden Parcel had 15 points and Ryan Richards and Grant Cochonour 14 each as the Warriors won a nonconference game Friday.

Now 6-2, Casey is at Altamont on Tuesday.

—Olney 64, Paris 26 — At Olney, Ill., the visiting Tigers fell in an LIC game Friday.

Now 3-8 overall and 0-3 in conference games, Paris hosts Tolono Unity on Tuesday. Olney is 9-1 and 2-0.

Girls basketball

—Northview 58, North Putnam 32 — At Brazil, a balanced attack for the host Knights included 16 points from Brenna Stallcop, 11 each from Rekelle Terrell and Carlee Schrader and 10 by Reagin White in a Little Illini Conference victory Friday.

Northview is now 10-2, 3-1 in the WIC, and begins play in the Jenni Marietta State Farm Classic at home next Friday against Cloverdale.

North Putnam, 5-9 and 1-4, hosts Indian Creek on Saturday.
