Rousimar Palhares and Jake Shields Issued Temporary Suspensions in Nevada
Stemming from their actions at World Series of Fighting's event on Aug. 1 in Las Vegas, Rousimar Palhares and Jake Shields, the WSOF 22 main event fighters, have been officially placed under temporary suspension by the Nevada Athletic Commission.
The NAC made the suspensions official at Thursday's commission meeting in Las Vegas.
Palhares submitted Shields via a Kimura shoulder lock at WSOF 22. The bout was marred with complaints from Shields that Palhares was eye gouging during the fight and accusations that Palhares held the submission hold in excess of what was warranted. After the fight's conclusion, Shield's sucker punched Palhares after he finally let go of the hold.

Palhares' suspension stems from the allegation that he held his Kimura submission hold well past the point that referee Steve Mazzagatti called a halt to the fight and physically tried to stop the hold.
Shields' suspension, of course, stems from throwing a punch after the conclusion of the fight.
The two will have to go before the athletic commission at a future hearing to face the full disciplinary sanctions for their actions.
Palahres, who has a history of holding his submissions to excess, was already stripped of his WSOF welterweight championship and suspended indefinitely by the promotion, pending the outcome of his NAC disciplinary hearing.
