Roy Keane has criticised Liverpool defender Andy Robertson for his comments in light of Scotland's historic 5-1 defeat against Germany.

Their Group A loss was the heaviest ever in a opening match as the Euro 2024 hosts got off to the perfect start. Scotland flew out of the traps after being well-backed in Germany, however their hopes soon evaporated as two goals in 18 minutes put Die Mannschaft in control.

It went from bad to worse when Ryan Porteous was shown a straight red card for a wild two-footed lunge on Ilkay Gundogan in the penalty area. Kai Havertz stepped up to convert the spot-kick before Niklas Fullkrug and former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can added to the scoreline in the second-half.

Speaking after the match, Robertson said that Steve Clarke's side were not aggressive enough and they need to "bounce back quickly" as they face Switzerland in the penultimate group match, next week.

"First half we just got it all wrong really, weren't aggressive enough, let good players on the ball and they had a gameplan, we did, their gameplan worked a million times better," said the Liverpool full-back. "It wasn't because of the practice, we couldn't put it together on the pitch and big occasions like this, you've got to do that and unfortunately we didn't do that.

"Second half, down to 10 men, I thought the lads dug in and lose a sloppy goal and we could've drew the second half but there's no consolation. We're well backed over here, we've got so many good supporters, today was hugely disappointing but it's the first game against the home nation and you don't get much tougher than that. We have to bounce back quickly, there was a lot of things wrong about today and we have to sort it for a quick turnaround on Tuesday."

However, the outspoken Irishman wasn't best pleased with comments from the Scotland captain, describing the interview from Robertson as "rubbish coming out".

Keane argued: "Andy Robertson said about a gameplan, it's well and good having a plan, and they weren't aggressive enough, you have to be aggressive in a game of football.

"When you're against opposition who are so much stronger than you, being aggressive is part of it. I love watching skilful players and the talent of the German player - it was great to watch but my goodness, you've got to hit people [smacks hands]. Do it in the right way," he continued.

"It's no good talking after the game, 'we had a game plan' it's rubbish, Andy Robertson is just rubbish coming out. You knew before the game what was at stake, you'll be angry tomorrow, no you should be angry all the time. They're talking about creating history, they're creating history alright by playing as bad as that, letting their manager and supporters down. Football's a physical game, they didn't lay a glove on them."
