RUGBY UNION: Joubert named match official for Scotland Six Nations match
The South African referee was criticised for awarding Australia a penalty in the dying moments of their late victory over Scotland in the quarter-final of the Rugby World Cup, with World Rugby later conceding his decision had been wrong.
Craig Joubert will be braced for a hostile reception from Scotland fans in Dublin next March after he was named as an assistant referee for the Six Nations clash with Ireland.
The South African official became public enemy number one in Scotland last month when he controversially awarded Australia a last-gasp penalty in the Rugby World Cup quarter-final, which Bernard Foley kicked to seal a 35-34 win.
Joubert then further infuriated Scotland by running off the pitch after blowing the final whistle and World Rugby later stated that he had made the wrong decision to award the contentious penalty at Twickenham.
The 38-year-old will not be in the middle for any of Scotland's Six Nations encounters, but he will take the flag when Vern Cotter's men face the defending champions at the Aviva Stadium on March 19.
Joubert will return to Twickenham to take charge of England's clash with Wales a week earlier, but they are the only two Six Nations matches he is due to officiate in.
