A signed 2015 RWC Final All Blacks shirts could become very valuable in the future

Rugby fans and collectors are desperate to get their hands on New Zealand memorabilia following the scintillating performance against Australia in the Rugby World Cup 2015 Final at Twickenham Stadium.

Highly-desirable items from the tournament, which saw the All Blacks clinch their third title, are expected by sports memorabilia experts to be lucrative long-term investments.

New Zealand rugby collectibles have historically been of huge interest, with the jersey captain Dave Gallaher wore during the famous 1905 Test against Wales selling at auction for a world record price of £180,000 last month. The sale of the shirt beat the previous world record – a New Zealand rugby shirt worn on their first tour of Britain which sold for £22,000 in May this year.

Other stand-out memorabilia includes a cap from the first NZRU national rugby team that sold for £7,500 in 2011 and a ball used during the 1924 ‘Invincibles’ New Zealand tour, which sold for £2,400 in the same year.

Commenting on the increased interest and value of New Zealand’s merchandise, Sports Memorabilia expert Gary Ashburn, former director of the Stanley Gibbons Group of collectibles companies, said: “Following New Zealand’s emphatic Rugby World Cup 2015 victory, interest in team memorabilia is reaching an all-time high as rugby fans and collectors around the world attempt to snap up valuable items as long-term investments.

"One item that I expect to be very popular for fans and collectors alike is a Rugby World Cup 2015 signed shirt featuring the players from the victorious squad. An item such as this would be very sought after and if placed in a specialist auction could sell for in excess of £50,000.”

An official Rugby World Cup 2015 signed New Zealand shirt will be available for collectors to purchase on the official RWC 2015 auction and memorabilia website, as well as limited edition framed images celebrating the team’s success. Each of the participating 20 nations are fully represented with exclusive items.
