SUPPORTERS have reacted to Southampton's fixture schedule ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Russell Martin's charges will get the campaign underway with a trip to Newcastle United before welcoming Nottingham Forest to St Mary's for their first home game.

Saints face fellow promoted sides Ipswich Town (Saturday, September 21) and Leicester City (Saturday, October 19) in their first 10 matches.

The last three games of the campaign will see them welcome Manchester City, visit Everton and take on Arsenal at St Mary's on the final day.

Here is how Saints fans have reacted on social media to the first six fixtures of the season...

Southampton's first six games of the season (Image: SDE) Stuart Haigh wrote: "That looks like a decent start on paper, it all depends on what squad we’ve got and we’ll need to hit the ground running."

Glen Olsen thinks: "As long as we get a good goalkeeper we can get nine points from the first four games. That would be good."

Michael Stevens added: "Need some serious investment to compete in the Premiership. Those fixtures give us a reasonable chance of getting some points on the board."

Sid Snott said: "With the squad we have right now every game will be tough and will be lucky to get five points.

"But if the owners get their money out and start spending to build a Premier League team then the sky is the limit."

Shaun Warren claimed: "I would be happy with seven or eight points from that run of fixtures. It would set us up nicely for the rest of the season.

James Hazzard thinks: "We can definitely beat Nottingham Forest, Brentford, Ipswich and Bournemouth. (Getting) 12 points out of 18 is definitely a possibility.

Richard Ramplee said: "A great opportunity to get a good start to the campaign, three wins and a couple of draws."
