Sarah Kaufman Misses Her Target, Draws Germaine de Randamie at UFC on FOX 17

Sarah Kaufman had been gunning for someone at the upper end of the UFC women's bantamweight rankings for her next fight, but she won't get her wish. She'll instead face Germaine de Randamie at UFC on FOX 17 on Dec. 19 in Orlando, Fla.

UFC officials confirmed the bout, first reported by the Orlando Sentinel on Friday.

Lately, Kaufman had been targeting the likes of Miesha Tate, Cat Zingano, and Bethe Correia for her next fight. All but Correia are ranked higher than Kaufman, who sits at No. 5 in the division. UFC officials instead opted for de Randamie, who is currently No. 15 in the rankings.

A former Strikeforce champion, Kaufman (17-3, 1 NC) enters the fight coming off of a disappointing armbar submission loss to Alexis Davis at UFC 186 in April. The armbar appears to be Kaufman's achilles heel, as all three of her defeats have come via that particular submission. The good news? Her next opponent has never won via submission.

Although she's struggled to gain her footing in the Octagon, de Randamie (5-3) won her last bout, stopping Larissa Pacheco with punches at UFC 185. A Dutch kickboxer, she has a strong striking background, which could make for an exciting fight with Kaufman, who is relentless on the feet.
