Scotland international the latest Reading youngster to make Manchester move

15-year-old Camron Mpofu has confirmed his exciting switch to Manchester United, becoming the latest Reading teenager to move to the North-West.

A Scotland Under-15 international, Mpofu joined the Royals at Under-12 level and has spent three years honing his craft at the club's fabled Category One set-up.

Yet to be officially confirmed on club channels, the teenager has made his own announcement on Instagram.

"I’m proud to officially announce my signing for Manchester United, he said. " I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me on this journey so far, especially my family, the coaches and staff Reading. The hard work continues."

The Reading Chronicle understands the deal is worth in excess of six figures, coming at a crucial time for the club with finances remaining precarious until a takeover is completed.

His switch comes 12 months on from striker Luca Fletcher's move to the other side of Manchester, moving to Manchester City in a deal worth seven figures.

The likes of Michael Olise, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Christian Dunbar-McDonald have all spent time in Reading and Manchester.

In what was a standout campaign for the club's Academy system- headed up by Royals legend Michael Gilkes.

Noel Hunt's Under-21s reached the PL2 semi-final and won the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup while Mikele Leigertwood's Under-18s impressed in the FA Youth Cup, all while facing a decimated squad due to sales or moving within age groups.

January sales of youth graduates, including the likes of Nelson Abbey, Tom McIntyre and Tom Holmes, all brought in crucial fees to keep the bills paid throughout the second half of the season.

Due to play in the Premier League International Cup next season, the Reading Chronicle understands that the club have already passed their Category One audit for next season.
