Serena Williams reaches her 11th Wimbledon final

With a decisive forehand, Serena Williams secured her place in an 11th singles Wimbledon final.

In just under an hour, she fought off Barbora Strycova, who had previously beaten Johanna Konta in the quarter-finals, in a one-sided battle of 6-1, 6-2.

She will be up against Romanian Simona Halep on Saturday, aiming to win her eighth Wimbledon title and equal the all-time record of 24 grand slam titles, currently held by Margaret Court.

In her post-match interview, she said: “It definitely feels good to be back in the final.

“[My movement] is definitely a lot better, every match I know I’m improving and I just needed to feel good. Now I feel like I can do what I do best, which is to play tennis.

“[Simona Halep] is tough, she played unbelievable today, but I look forward to it.”

Her hopes of winning both the singles and mixed doubles titles were dashed when, despite playing with Andy Murray, she lost on Wednesday against the top seeds Bruno Soares and Nicole Melichar.
